Hell yes - Accountability for donald trump is good…
But look - let’s be real, this is still a very sad day for America.
Donald J. Trump was just officially arrested in the state of Florida. 37 federal criminal counts to be exact. Violations of the Espionage Act chief among them. (I don’t want to share the pics. They’re everywhere. I’m just not in the mood. I’m sorry).
And yes - at first glance, it makes me want to pop a bottle of pretty good champagne (let’s be honest, sparkling wine because I don’t exactly have the budget for REAL champagne)… but you know what, as this day has unfolded, as this story has unfolded… the less appealing those bubbles have become. I can’t escape it. I can’t triumphant tweet it away. I can’t shake it.
This is a sad day for America.
A very, very sad day for America.
And this is all the culmination of a very sad period for America.
The age of trump has been one endlessly sad, frustrating, infuriating, laugh through the paralyzing fear, mind blowing, ‘is this happening, how is this happening, we need a Batman, where is Batman, there is no Batman’ moment after the next.
And as much as I admit that his ascension to the presidency has changed my life I can’t help but wish that we weren’t here.
That none of this had happened.
To ALL of us.
If I think about it (and I’ve been thinking about it a lot)… this isn’t even remotely surprising. This arc has long since been written into the stars. The guy who asked Russia (if they were listening. They were listening) for help finding his rival’s emails (they found them) was always going to end up here.
We feared he would sell our secrets to our adversaries from day one (and it didn’t help that like on day one he had the Russians in the Oval yucking it up over some Israeli intelligence). We worried he would align with our enemies (he sided with Putin over our own Intelligence agencies on foreign soil). We worried that he would imperil our men and women in uniform (and let’s be honest, based upon this indictment we can only assume he has and don’t yet know to what catastrophic degree).
So, we knew all of this was likely. They were our darkest fears. They kept us up at night. But there was so much additional anti-democratic crazy unfolding on the daily, that we really could only focus on surviving the day - let alone the decade and beyond.
