I'm a Canadian looking at this with a variety of non-US news media inputs and a very different cultural perspective. So I hate to say this, because I suspect it will inevitably be offensive, but the American culture, as a whole, is 100% focused on money and profits... and everything else is tertiary. Your laws have essentially entrenched this into your culture. And your governments have 100% embraced corporate control.
As long as general population are making money, buying cars and houses, and appliances, and eating out, and going to sports games, and engorging themselves on their consumer fetishes, they honestly don't care about any of this. Democracy? Dictatorship? Authoritarians? They really don't give a flying fuck what it is as long as they can carry on with BAU. Culturally, life's value has been reduced to a dollar sign. I'm not dismissing the incredible, fantastic, laudable, wonderful culture that is (or was) "America" but inevitably over the past 50 years it has eroded and devolved to one single common value: money.

Calls of “get him” are heard, as they run after him. Why? We don’t know. The kid has done NOTHING except approach his bike, while being brown in public. I have a brown kid approximately that age. He is a United States citizen, but looking at those thugs rushing to take that Doordasher down … looking at the (hidden and only reported via leaks to the media) dozens of American citizens who have already been caught up in these illegal profiling dragnets … I am not reassured.
We should all be afraid of such flagrant lawlessness. This regime ignores court orders, time and again. Our federal justice system still works, but it is under siege on all sides INCLUDING SCOTUS, who ignores dozens of pages of meticulously documented legal reasoning for federal restraining orders and decisions and simply … overturns them. No justification given. Just thin briefs on a shadow docket, if any reason at all. If they’ll do this to suspected immigrants, they’ll do it to us, too. They’re already setting the stage. Democrats and liberals are the new “illegals”. MAGA adherents feel very smug right now.
