On this episode of The Siren Podcast, I sat down with Tahra Hoops, Director of Economic Analysis with Chamber of Progress, and author of The Rebuild, a Substack about making blue cities and states better and less expensive.
A bombshell new report now shows that inflation is rising again, hitting a three-year high under Donald Trump. As Tahra argues, Donald Trump has completely failed to deliver on his campaign promises of lowering grocery prices or inflation. Instead, he’s launched the United States into new war with Iran, which has done exact opposite of lowering costs, along with inexplicably flip-flopping tariffs. Tahra says “too many Democrats are responding with the fiscal equivalent of a coupon.”
We also dive into what Democrats should be doing right now to alleviate voters’ concerns on affordability, considering the failures of Trump and the Republican party. She says that Democrats cannot simply “out-tax-cut” Republicans, calling it “slopulism.” Additionally, we explore what an actual progressive affordability agenda could look like, along with the Democratic lawmakers across the nation who are delivering one.
