Pro-Life, My Ass

You don’t get to call it morality when your mercy ends at birth.

I am so sick and tired of Republicans calling themselves pro-life when they are anything but.

Starving children don’t have to sit through a school day with empty bellies you could have filled if you were pro-life. Miscarrying women don’t have to risk sepsis before you’ll let them see a doctor if you were pro-life. You don’t ban the medication a transgender person needs simply to exist — pushing them toward suicide — if you were pro-life. You don’t make the punishment harsher for the doctor who helps a ten-year-old rape survivor than for the rapist himself if you were pro-life.

You don’t make it easier for a child to get an AR-15 than a book with two mommies if you were pro-life. You don’t turn dry-erase boards into ballistic shields because you’ve decided school shootings are something kids should just get over if you were pro-life. You don’t whip up hate, target immigrants, or stoke mobs with lies about “the other” if you were pro-life. You don’t blow up fishing boats and call it policy. You don’t rip babies from beds and cram them into U-Hauls. You don’t force whole communities to live in fear because of the violence your intolerance feeds.

If you are using the starvation of children as leverage, you are not protecting them. You are exploiting them.

And let’s be clear — it’s not the drag queens. It’s not the books with two mommies. It’s not the trans athlete you’ve never met. It’s not the foreign gang members you’ve been told to fear. Those aren’t the people putting our kids at risk.

We need to protect our children from Republicans — because they are the ones saying out loud that they are willing to hurt them to benefit themselves.

They’ve now admitted it. Said the quiet part out loud. That the pain Americans are about to go through because SNAP isn’t funded will, quote, “hit level ten.” And they said that’s what’s going to make Democrats cave. They are counting on suffering. They are rooting for it. They are betting that hunger will break people before it breaks their cruelty.

You don’t do any of that if you are truly pro-life.

But that’s the truth, isn’t it? They’re not pro-life.

They’re pro-forced birth.

Pro-starving kids as strategy.

Pro-squelch self-expression.

Pro-snuff out individuality.

Pro-stigmatize, pro-sanctioned hate, pro-protect the predator, pro-xenophobia, pro-subjugation of women, and pro-proselytize.

They are pro-they decide what life is — and what life is not.

They are the lawmakers who would rather see a woman die on an operating table than admit that her life has value. The preachers who weaponize faith to control rather than to comfort. The politicians who hold up Bibles they’ve never read while slashing programs that feed the poor those same scriptures call blessed. They love to sermonize about the sanctity of life — until it’s inconvenient, until it costs them something, until it requires compassion instead of control.

If you were truly pro-life, you’d care about the baby after it’s born. You’d care whether that child has food, healthcare, clean water, and a school that won’t double as a shooting range. You’d fight for paid family leave, for childcare, for a living wage. You’d make sure mothers weren’t dying in childbirth at rates higher than any other developed nation. You’d fight for the air that child breathes and the planet they’ll inherit. But you don’t. Because you’re not pro-life. You’re pro-power.

You’re pro photo-op. Pro outrage. Pro fake tears and real cruelty. Pro choosing unborn children as your cause and born ones as your collateral.

When you strip away the slogans and the sanctimony, what’s left is a party that profits from pain — that needs it. Suffering isn’t a side effect of their policies. It’s the point. It’s the tool they wield to punish dissent and reinforce control. Hunger, poverty, fear — these are features, not flaws.

You can’t call yourself pro-life while cheering executions, banning abortions, cutting healthcare, and letting children starve. You can’t be pro-life while defending the men who beat their wives and blame the victims who come forward. You can’t be pro-life while treating LGBTQ kids as political pawns and calling it “parental rights.” You can’t be pro-life while standing on the graves of schoolchildren and protecting the lobby that sold their killers the guns.

They can keep their slogans. Their scripture. Their fake halos.

Because they sure as shit are not pro-life.

They’re pro-control.

Pro-cruelty.

Pro-death when it’s profitable and silence when it’s not.

The truth is that life has never been their priority. Power has.

And every time they call themselves pro-life, they’re really just bragging about the power to decide who gets to live freely and who doesn’t.

So don’t you dare tell me you’re pro-life when you’re fine with starving children for leverage. Don’t you dare tell me you’re protecting kids when you won’t even feed them.

Because real pro-life means mercy. It means empathy. It means love that extends beyond the womb.

And until Republicans find any trace of that (spoiler alert, they won’t), they can stop pretending they’ve cornered the market on morality.

You don’t get to call yourself pro-life when what you’re protecting isn’t life at all — it’s the lie that you ever cared in the first place.

And with that, today’s song.

I love you guys!

I’m worried about what’s happening here on this platform because it’s feeling like a lot of people have left for some reason, and I really hope not.

Stay together, stay in the fight, and stay strong!

💙 Jo
