In Deadline's reporting on this from earlier today (link below), Bari Weiss is quoted as saying to staff that the report needed to "do more" than previous print reporting had by "getting principles on the record". And since she knows the Trump administration will never go on the record for stories they don't like, she's GASLIGHTING her staff. Like an abusive husband demanding things of his wife she cannot possibly give him, we now have 60 Minutes as an abused spouse in the journalism world. I think the staff and reporters of 60 Minutes should resign and start their own news organization!
She has obviously forgotten where she is working: CBS Television and TV adds images to the text of a newspaper and those images tell the story. A picture is worth a thousand words, or something......
Don't forget Margaret Brennan suggesting on Face the Nation yesterday that the DOJ was following "at least the spirit if not the intention of the law" regarding the release of Epstein files.

Well in a (very warped) sense, they WERE: Congress passed the law (virtually unanimously) with the understanding that DOJ would make damned sure nothing too terrible -- for Trump, at least -- came of it. So in that sense DOJ very much followed the spirit, and also the intent.

I grew up with Walter Cronkite and then Dan Rather. Dan was sandbagged by a well-crafted scheme to make it appear that he wasn't doing enough fact-checking. As if he's supposed to be an expert on typefaces from IBM Selectric typewriters. CBS has never regained the degree of credibility it had when I was in high school and college. Now it has decided that credibility isn't as important as not upsetting Preznit Fuckwit.

The capitulation of CBS News under Bari Weiss as its chief is another major blow to democracy and free speech. It is beyond gut-wrenching to our already devastated digestive systems. Our psyches were destroyed long ago, starting with Trump's escalator descent into fascism. I'm afraid that the destruction of the American democracy is near its completion.
