Pete Hegseth thinks he is such a macho, hunk of a man. Let him prove it to the US military by completing a SAS winter survival course in the Brecon Beacons, against British woman soldier. That way, he can prove what a hard man he is and justify his DEI critisms as just woke culture.
I know who I would put my money on.
IlBut of course it won't happen, because Hegseth is all mouth and no trousers.
Absolutely the best. I was born on Camp Pendleton when my father was drafted in to the Marine Corps during the Korean War. My late father-in-law left his teaching job during WWII ,enlisted in the Marine Corps and fought on Iwo Jima.Find me ONE member of the Trump family who ever served in the military.
My dad tried to sign up for the Navy but a Marine recruiter scooped him up. He, too, spent WWII in the South Pacific and would only speak about the horrors he experienced there in the final years of his life. He was the most gentle man and served his country with dignity, earning a purple heart. He would be heartbroken were he alive today. 💔
Dad never did talk about it. Except to say that when people saw big ships coming, they’d take all the young girls off to islands so small that they couldn’t be reached by the Navy vessels.
I, too, was born at Camp Pendleton two years after the Korean War. My dad fought in the South Pacific during WWII, at the Chosin Reservoir in Korea, and was in the worst parts of Vietnam during my middle school years. Trump and Hegseth aren’t fit to lick my dad’s boots. For that matter, they aren’t even fit to speak to a roomful of military families who have stayed behind, living in fear for their loved ones, except to applaud their courage and sacrifice. If my mom was still alive, she would likely spit in their faces for their disgusting disrespect. I wish I could do that for both of my parents and the military families I grew up with.
Trump's father called in a favor from a foot doctor (the doctor has since passed, but his daughters tell the stories of their father doing that because Fred Trump owned his building and would give the doctor priority service if there were any problems in the building - quid per quo) to keep Donald out of the service. Donald told his sons he would disown them if they joined. I don't think the others served either.
The draft dodging in the Family Trump was started by good ole grandpa, who left Germany to avoid requisite military service. And in another foreshadowing event, became a brothel owner in Canada, the future 51st state. He returned to Germany flush with ill gotten cash - more foreshadowing - but was sent packing as a draft dodger only to then moved to New York, and well…
I’ve always blamed producer Mark Burnett for creating the successful business magnate myth that surrounds Donny and lead to his first election. But perhaps it’s really Germany’s fault for kicking gramps out in the first place.
I was so pissed off yesterday in listening to what was happening and then I received an email from one of my representatives Roger Marshall and sharing a speech he gave to Gold Star families and at that I let loose.
“You are one of the worst, if not the worst ever to represent the citizens of Kansas. After what I heard today from Trumps mouth to “our” military leaders was a disgraceful and disgusting rant. For him to say that our military should train in our cities (and I know he meant blue and that in opposition we are the enemy is totally unacceptable. I also saw your interview on CNN about the fake AI of Schumer and Booker from yesterday and you tried to dismiss it as “Trumps” child play, well I’ve got something to say about that and it’s a big Fuck You, this isn’t child play it’s beyond repulsive for anyone let alone the President of The United States. You think he’s doing a good job, well that’s your opinion, but it’s not mine or millions of other citizens. I’m a small voice in all this and as a veteran I’m pissed off and I will work tirelessly to send you all back to the job market. “
Oh JoJo! Terrific essay, again. Its all so sad and infuriating. While the cultural and political divide in this country is daunting, hopefully we come out of this nightmare with a reinvigorated sense of what this country is meant to be and could be.
As a combat veteran, I can tell Whiskeyleaks Kegsbreath that when you're using a small wall for shelter, and people are shooting at you, how in shape you are is an irrelevant to staying alive. When artillery shells are falling nearby, how many pushups you can do doesn't really matter.
And it's clear he's too stupid to understand that the US is a signatory to the Geneva Convention which prevents us from becoming savages against people who are merely there in whatever combat zone we happen to be in at the time.
His idiotic "warrior ethos" is some brainfart knuckleheaded throwback to IDK, the Vikings, or Mongols, or Huns, or name any set of ancient warriors you care too. Disgusting.
You don’t need a penis to guide drones or program the computers that are increasingly replacing infantry for warfare. Heck, a woman in a wheelchair could do that. As a matter of fact, I think they do. Bummer, huh? And … Senator Duckworth would like a word.
I served with and commanded women in my military days. All did their job well, and earned our respect. I’m a former naval aviator, and I will offer. The airplanes are equal opportunity. Do it well, you survive. Screw it up, well… My point, what mattered was performance, not gender. The idea of different standards is crap.
I’m former military. The “warrior ethos” is just some warmed over phrase that junior offices and enlisted throw about. The real ethos, you do your job to the best of your abilities. You don’t let your wingman down. No flags. No banners.
Any halfway respectable Viking, Mongol, or Hun could chew Hegseth up then spit him out and go find a better-tasting breakfast without working up a sweat.
We need more like your dad, Jo. And someone needs to ask Hegseth what he can learn about "warrior ethos" from a draft dodger.... I'd love to hear that answer
I want every member of Congress to listen to that speech and then tell us why Trump shouldn't be immediately impeached, convicted and removed from office.
As a proud military brat, my anger, embarrassment, and grief are over the top. I keep remembering the two things my dad told me about the Korean War. He told his men to always keep a dry pair of socks next to their chest so they could switch them and help prevent foot frostbite. When they were retreating from the frozen hell of the Chosin Reservoir, he would kick his men to get them up and moving so they wouldn’t freeze to death. How dare idiots like Trump and Hegseth put themselves in the same room with men who live these realities. Much less, lecture to them.
Absolutely fabulous post … I don’t know how you do it but you bring laughing outbursts, shear disdain, and profound sadness to these cray cray times. Thank you.
Thank you Jo. I so badly needed what you wrote. I too (as a retired military officer) was/am incensed at what I saw and heard. A serial draft dodger and a pass-over for promotion, phone-it-in MAJ have the gall to lecture our senior most military leaders about what "right" looks like in today's military. To tell them, under their watch, they have allowed the military to go soft, ineffective, undisciplined?
Bottom line - what was openly discussed yesterday was a salvo to try to convince our military leaders to hop into the Donny Clown Car and have those under their command turn their weapons against fellow American Citizens on American soil because these enemies within have to audacity to vote for someone other than Trump.
This action IS treason of the highest order - regardless of how Fox wants to Trump-splain the situation and conclude by blaming Biden. A sitting president calling for military forces to be used against non-MAGA Americans. "Descent against my manifesto of the resurrection of fascism part deux - screw that, I will just have the military shoot whoever doesn't kiss the ring - see, problem solved".
The thinly veiled threat toward those who may remind the POTUS of the Posse Comitatus Act or simply suggest that pointing our military forces inward places the United States at Defcon Level 1 for vulnerability of attack from outside entities..."There goes your rank. There goes your career" - is what he is holding over these military members - a career's worth of blood, sweat and tears thrown away at the blink of an eye by a man who failed to serve his country when called upon on 5 separate occasions. This is who is leading them now.
The military taking action against the administration, as I have heard people suggesting, will not happen. These men and women know full well the consequences of such action on the stability of the country much less that to do so would be a coup by definition.
The savior from within MUST be the GOP members of the Legislative Branch. I call on them to honor the oath they all took when elected and fight to preserve the integrity of our system of governance and its guiding principles as outlined by the Founding Fathers in our Constitution. Is you lust for power greater than the preservation of our Country? To let a repeated failure of a man at all levels convince you to completely disregard our Constitution in favor of following a fool?
This is your time GOP. Time to call it like it is. Calling on our military forces to focus their lethality against fellow Americans who do not share the same political views should be the last straw. The fact that he called on these seasoned leaders to do so is treason - without question or need for interpretation. Time to stop the enabling and the protecting of this failed man. Put our Country first.
Hmmmm. While not an officer, I was enraged by what happened, and the GOP isn't going to do shit. In case you haven't been watching, they've all capitulated to those fools. Don't know what they were promised, but seems to me they want this to happen. They think they'll be on top of everything when it does. Those 2 idiots aren't the only treasonous assholes in this bunch. They're all complicit. Even Dem leaders, who think this is some kind of game, are complicit to what's happening. I am a veteran, and I see treason & Tweedle Dee-Dumb shit all over the place.
How could eight hundred graduates of West Point and Annapolis sit silent and not take action? They had the chance to stop this abomination and they are now complicit by their silence. Basic freedoms are under attack, the press is under attack and US cities will be practice arenas for federal troops. How far down before we hit rock bottom?
That silence was their disapproval. That silence mocked the TV has-beens expecting applause and cheers--like they get in their staged rallies. That silence was a reality slap to their faces.
The first thing anyone in a military situation will tell you is you do not go off half cocked in the heat of the moment. You wait, you plan, you seek their weaknesses and find the best opportunity you can act with minimal casualties. These are professionals; they take their oath to the Constitution very seriously.
They did take action. Proper action. Now, I assume you -- like me -- have an image of the military leaders standing and surrounding those two and, by mere presence and fortitude, crushing them until nothing was left but a pile of pulp and a puddle of piss.
As the old saying goes, "Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer". The generals and admirals can't fight Trumps tyranny if they are sacked. Their silence at that meeting, said it all.
Military regulations forbid shows of support for political actions while in uniform. It’s not just “tradition,” it’s the law. This is one reason General Milley apologised to his troops after that performative act in front of the church, when T brandished an upside-down Bible, remember? That’s why Milley got fired, for saying it was wrong and he was misled about his appearance in fatigues for it.
They’ve all had to sit without moving or reacting through presentations of many kinds, whether or not they liked them, for all their professional lives. The fact that most of them thought this whole thing was a steaming pile of BS probably made it somewhat easier. What an embarrassment.
So you want them to violate their oaths to the Constitution? What exactly would you have had them do? They have no authority to arrest anyone, let alone the two civilians who are their direct chain of command leaders.
And nothing those two said is treasonable. Stupid, rash, obscene, and disgust worthy certainly, but not actionable. They'll be complicit if they allow whatever the Orange Anusmouth has in mind in our cities to actually be carried out. Until then they did what they should have done, and that's remain silent, and not give it a reaction at all.
Not treasonable? Read 18 USC 2381. Treason is defined as levying war against our nation. That is exactly what these turds are doing in L.A., Chicago, Portland. Not only treason, but a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act which prohibits federal troops from being deployed to states to enforce domestic policy. Already found to be a violation of the PCA by a federal judge regarding L.A. Congressional repubs are the party of traitors and law breakers. The military is our only hope to stop this madness.
What would have them do? Boo? Jeer? Yell F* you? That is crass, uncultured, insubordinate, while it may be what those two “wanna bes that never were” deserved. It was more of a display of courage and fortitude . If you want the former behavior go to a Ryder Cup. Recall, if you can, the abomination’s birthday parade. The rout step March said it all. I suppose you never served?
Yeah, I recently saw some idiots talking about the missteps during that debacle. They thought it happened by accident. After all our drills, it was very difficult for those soldiers to do. Obviously people who have never been in the military have no clue how we are trained to march, let alone how difficult it must've been to march out-of-step. That was a silent rebellion, and I gave those fools talking about it a piece of my mind. UGH! 🤬
Your description of this unmitigated disaster is priceless. The urinal cake truck stop line is so spot on. I believe these idiots are underestimating how disgusted and angry people are becoming. It will bite them, and in 💩🍊’s case, on their fat white asses. Can’t wait. FIGHT MAGA! RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES! RBS
I’m old enough that my dad, and nearly every dad I knew, had served in WWII.
Respect for their service was a given.
These men and women know where their loyalties lie: with the Constitution of the United States of America. Not with clowns and criminals.
I live in northern Italy, and there are multiple US bases nearby. Members of the military attached to NATO live in my city.
And when we talk with friends who are retired military about this monstrosity of an administration, they can recite from memory the oath they retook, every time they re-upped.
My only hope against blood in the streets of blue cities was sitting coldly angry, being harangued by those unworthy to even look at them.
Both my parents served in WWII; my mom's first husband was a P-38 pilot KIA over Romania, escorting bombers to hit the oil refineries at Ploiesti. She joined the Navy WAVES, a rarity for Mexican-American women. My parents met working in the burn unit at Corona Naval Hospital, taking care of sailors and Marines wounded in the Pacific Theater; some still there from Pearl Harbor. They knew what sacrifice meant. They knew what costs were paid to fight fascism. I am so grateful both of them are no longer here to see this travesty of a regime shitting all over their service.
And I'll be damned if I don't stand up and fight these bastards ruining my country.
I will say it again. Treason is defined by 18 USC 2381 as levying war against our own nation. That is exactly what these thugs are doing by deploying troops to Portland, L.A. , DC, Chicago. Impeach now, Congress, before it's too late, before we suffer death and destruction.

Drops his trousers in the closet like all the other Macho machos.
What a great idea!

My Dad wasn't drafted and sent to Germany in 1944 to see this shit happen here.
My dad signed up for the Navy. And was sent to the South Pacific. Which was nothing like the musical.

My Dad flew 30 missions in a B24 in Europe. He'd be apoplectic!!😡😡
I, too, was born at Camp Pendleton two years after the Korean War. My dad fought in the South Pacific during WWII, at the Chosin Reservoir in Korea, and was in the worst parts of Vietnam during my middle school years. Mary Trump’s father, Fred Jr., was in the Air Force Reserve after ROTC in college. He was a pilot, of which his family strongly disapproved.
Yeah, lets not forget the Mary Trump branch is sane, against the odds...by which i mean Fred Senior.
Trump's father called in a favor from a foot doctor (the doctor has since passed, but his daughters tell the stories of their father doing that because Fred Trump owned his building and would give the doctor priority service if there were any problems in the building - quid per quo) to keep Donald out of the service.
