Because it's true of every conservative I have ever seen, heard, or known. It's that bone-deep, brittle insecurity, just below the level of consciousness, that thrives on the unshakeable belief that a shallow facade is the essential part, and a true reflection of what actually lies beneath. To reckon with that, in all of its narcissistic ugliness, would be intolerable. So they just...don't. In the president's case we see it scaled up to the size of the goddamn globe, but it is a difference of degree, not of kind. And this same intractable self-delusion goes for all the conservatives - oh, excuse me, "moderates" 🙄 - in the Democratic Party, too.
I keep thinking what horrible timing it is to have this person in the White House for the U.S.'s 250th celebration and the World Cup. But maybe it's perfect timing. It hopefully shines a brighter spotlight on his insanity. And he seems to be spiraling. Not sure if that's necessarily good news, but hopefully enough non-voters and both-siders will start to wake up.
The terrifying part is not that Trump is posting like a haunted casino mannequin who found Canva at 3 a.m. The terrifying part is how many grown adults are still pretending this is leadership instead of visible psychic collapse with nuclear codes. Fifty-two posts in six hours, fake medals, flag memes, self-mythology, revenge fantasies, and the endless need to staple his face onto history like a toddler with a gold Sharpie. If Biden had done one-tenth of this, Republicans would be demanding a cognitive exorcism before breakfast. But with Trump, everyone is supposed to nod politely while Grandpa Nero liveblogs the fire.

NJ is the latest site of just indescribable outrage in this area. I don't understand why the GD republicans can't at the very least get behind just treatment of detainees. They all have a case of inhumane treatment against the operators if not the whole country. It is such an embarrassment!
