The Ronna Revolt
NBC thought they were pretty slick sliding a traitor into their midsts. Their anchors weren’t having it and neither were we.
🚨UPDATE: NBC HAS ANNOUNCED THAT THEY HAVE REVERSED THEIR HIRING OF RONNA MCDANIEL!!🚨
First things first — let’s start with the currently breaking news: (this was written at 2:30 EST)
SCOOP @PuckNews: NBC NEWS plans to drop ex RNC-chair Ronna McDaniel as a paid contributor following on-air revolt from NBC/MSNBC talent. Execs are deliberating over details; announcement pending. Meanwhile, McDaniel is seeking legal representation.
It does remain to be seen if this is in fact accurate, but my gut says it is. One thing is for sure, if it is true, it’s a good thing and a necessary thing. And while we shouldn’t even be having this conversation, because that traitor trash shouldn’t have been hired by NBC to begin with, she was. So IF, and I stress IF, they do what we’re hearing they’re about to do, and reverse her hiring, then I’m willing to acknowledge the fact that they listened to us, they listened to the REAL journalists and hard working staff on their payroll, and they did the right thing.
Ish.
Because they seriously, seriously fucked up when they hired her to begin with. And sometimes an action is so bad, a mistake is so grave, a fuck up is so irreparable, that no remedy is really enough to undo it, forgive it or excuse it.
As an example, when I was little, my big sister gave me bangs. Well, not so much bangs really, as I ended up walking around with a butchered banzai of brown hair on top of my head and people could have looked at me and plausibly concluded that a rabid hedgehog had taken up residence in my tresses. But in that case, even as she realized she had made her baby sister look like a failed science experiment, and attempted to rectify the disaster, the more she cut to fix the shit she’d already cut, the worse it got, and the less likely it became that there was a pathway towards making any of it “right.”
That’s NBC with this bullshit hiring.
Like, it’s damn near impossible to accurately convey just how profoundly they fucked up here.
It’s akin to Panera posthumously making Jeffrey Dahmer their new corporate chef. It’s like adding Steve Bannon to the Council on Healthy Eating. It’s like making a xenophobic rapist reality tv game show host the president of the United States. Oh wait.
There’s a REASON we all stood up and said a collective “fuck no” instantly upon hearing the news of her hiring. And it’s not that she’s a Republican. There are plenty of those all over every major news outlet. They outnumber leggy blondes at this point. We’re used to them by now. Most of the time, they’re actually just as, if not often more insightful than the bleeding heart liberals on those shows, because they speak the old GOP language. They also saw Trump, looked around at each other and were like, “Are you sticking around for this shit? I’m not sticking around for this shit.” And they walked away.
Plus, in my experience, they’re usually pretty fucking fun to hang out with. But that could be a me thing because they feel like those bad boys you’re told in school to stay away from but you know you really can’t, so you find yourself making eyes at them in the hallway and you then you show up at some house party one night you’re not nearly cool enough to go to, but you know they’ll be there, and then you try to smoke a cigarette and it makes you sick and you spend the night in the bathroom but then they think you’re pretty funny and then you’re suddenly friends. And the rest is history.
Anyway, my point ain’t that we couldn’t “handle” a Republican on our channels. It was that we wouldn’t accept a traitor. We wouldn’t accept someone who not only eagerly assisted Trump in his attempts to thwart democracy, but someone who hasn’t stopped trying to do so in the years since.
