Sorry, JoJo, but had to comment after reading your first sentence, "_____ is a bad fucking guy — a grotesque, venal little tyrant who spent years pulverizing a country into submission with the joyless persistence of a man who learned that hurting people was the easiest way to feel in control." Doesn't this sound like another person we know, with small fingers ... ? Resist, stand by time tested principles and do it for our kids, and their kids ... .

I mean — it’s uncanny right?

MA Polar Bear's avatar

Not really, these cruel bullies are all cut from the same disgusting cloth. It's time to stand up and be counted. Zohran and AOC set good examples today. It's time for all of us to be brave and stand up, just like the greatest Generation.

dan's avatar

Yeah, after the first few sentences I had to double check who you were talking about. But let's make no mistake about the why Trump invaded, $$$$$. Trump will sell off rights to the oil, that now HE owns, to the highest bidder and get a nice kick-back. Be damn the consequences. He. Just. Doesn't. Fucking. Care.

MA Polar Bear's avatar

tRump cares deeply about himself, and NOBODY else.

Trumphuk would likely sell Melanie to the highest bidder — but she’d probably slit the slimy bastards throat. She’s probably got some good kompromat on him too!!

This will not end well. Will make Iraq look like a cakewalk. Notice a trend? Republicans invade countries with lies and Democrats are left holding the bag. Reagan, Bush, Bush, Trump … the only one that turned out better was Panama. We are better than this mess.

JoJoFromJerz's avatar

We are — for now — those in power, are not.

Rosemary Siipola's avatar

We need to wipe the floor in November. Keep the pressure on. In fact, we’ll need to win every election for the next 16-20 years.

Debby Griffiths's avatar

We need to hassle those senators until they are fed up with us. This cannot be allowed to be swept under the rug like his thousands of other illegal acts in 1 year. This not only break international laws, it breaks our own laws. It is easy to find the phone numbers to senators in DC. I suggest everyone call at least their own. I plan on also calling Thune, McConnell and as many more as I can tolerate leaving messages they will never answer. This cannot just cannot be another there he goes again. He has turned us into a feckless, untrustworthy country. Many of us have protested like the gentle people we are. I am too fucking old to take a bus too Colombia University to protest this time! There is no excuse and we must accept none.

You can reach ALL Senators and Representatives through the Capitol switchboard.

(202) 224-3121 Just ask for the person you want to speak to. They put you right through.

NRS STL's avatar

They got elected because of their talent in walking bent over, grabbing their ankles. I call them; I get nowhere because - gee - I'm just an ordinary citizen.

NRS STL's avatar

He will outlaw elections. In my darkest notions, Venezuela is merely a preamble to New York and Chicago.

I hope I'm REALLY wrong!

HI2thDoc's avatar

Did you use the term cakewalk on purpose? Because Donald Rumsfeld reportedly opined that that's what the Iraq invasion would be. Shows how delusional he and the entire Bush 43 group of idiots were. Delusional, self-congratulatory, arrogant neocons. They should have gone to jail for that illegal, "pre-emptive" invasion that cost many lives and limbs and huge amounts of taxpayer funds, straight into the military-industrial complex's pockets.

Rosemary Siipola's avatar

Agree. Trump is cornered. It’s going to be awful.

NRS STL's avatar

I would argue that we aren't better, since the same trash keeps getting elected by lazy morons who couldn't be bothered with civics class. Or debate, for that matter.

Ray Johnson's avatar

To the Roberts Court who granted this asshole immunity without a shred of support for it in the Constitution, I would just say: Look what the fuck you've done! How do you sleep at night?

NRS STL's avatar

They were paid well. They have armed guards to watch over them while they sleep.

It would be nice if he would stand up to Putin like he does horrific but far less lethal thugs like Maduro. Yet Putin gets a red carpet rather than a capture and turnover to the International Court of Justice. But don’t worry: Donny can bully female reporters who ask hard questions. Kinda like all he knows he learned in the WWE

Debby Griffiths's avatar

Putin told him how to do it and what to do. I have absolutely 0 doubts. This wrecks our credibility for decades, splits NATO wide open and more.

Jan Capaldi's avatar

Yes, it's definitely a page out of Vlad's playbook.

MA Polar Bear's avatar

tRump is too weak to stand up to someone he thinks is strong than he is. A David to a Goliath, tRumpy is not.

Damn! When I opened my phone, all I could see of your headline was, “the Bastard had it Coming,” and thought someone got Mr Tangerine Man on the tenth hole! There is more sand on the bottom of his hourglass. Knowing that makes me exhale.

HA - I love it!!!

JJ… we were told that Donald wanted to take us back to the mid 1800’s, tariffs, guilded age, raw power and…imperialism straight up for resources.. What has occurred in the last 12 months has been a laser focused assault on our institutions, our Constitution but most of all our Democracy.. a Cultural Revolution in our society economics, politics and social life. At 74 this is not the America I grew up in… it’s all in P2025….after today’s malarkey I need some rest.. Best to you and fellow travelers.

Pete Gorton's avatar

I'm also 74, but live down under in Oz. We thought we continued to be appalled at what was happening in the US, and then - every day - it gets worse!

I'm wondering if this "special military operation" (sorry - "law enforcement") is perhaps finally the "bridge too far"? Will it be the catalyst for the Congress members to finally say "enough"?

If not, I fear that when they invade Greenland, there will be a cat so far out of the bag, that we (in RoW) may never catch it...

Debby Griffiths's avatar

73 and I hear you Fredo! I kept thinking of the 1800s all day too. I was never a fan of the gilded age. Too much a chance I'd be among the poor, not the gilded. And I never really liked gold anyway.

I always praise your writing, but I forget to tell you that you always make me think too. Great work, Jo. Great song and the meme was right on. Lol

Totally perfect, as always, JoJo. And you're the first I've seen to have provided the why: "Because Maduro managed something Trump never could: he lost and stayed anyway." Jealous little p.o.s. prick. I heard the news soon after it happened, and just knew we were the ones who attacked, and I recognized we've turned into a murderous country. A true counterpoint to my plans today- going to the funeral of a very beloved, very loving and well-loved man. It was moving, and joyous, and life-affirming, reminding us who were there how lucky we were to have had him in our lives. And for me, the funeral was the far most pleasant part of this very sad day.

This one does count! The slime just keeps oozing from DT like the show Double Dare....

The US people must not let this happen...defend our constitution with all your might in telling your representatives.

Strategy and diplomacy certainly aren't qualities that can be attributed to anyone in this current administration.

Although the "strongman, I'm not fucking around" fantasy sells well in the MAGA heartland, in the civilized world that has existed for the past 80 years, this reeks of unreliability which manifests itself in a country's distrust, caution, contempt and a rapid reassessment and re-tooling of their economies - similar to a when one cautiously backs away from a rabid dog in order to pivot their focus away from what has the US has become: a third rail.

Although Madura might be a monster, unilateral actions like this are still condemned. Whatever Trump et-al thinks, we still live in a rules based global order. Latin America as a block will respond in kind, just as Canada has to the unjustified threats bestowed upon it.

Collectively this will accelerate the erosion of the US's global dominant position and you will soon start to experience the affects of being frozen out from the global playground. In fact, I assert that the US's global dominant position at this point is really an illusion. It's already gone. Trump is just the last arm flailer who clearly doesn't understand the new world order.

I’m bad with names, but it’s comment about the opposition leader and how no one respects her. He says that because she’s a woman and for no other reason. Luckily the vice president, a woman, is speaking up and saying that they will not be controlled by the orange bastard.

EtTuBrutex's avatar

Maria Corina Machado is the name of the opposition leader. She is the recipient of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. Doesn’t that add an interesting little twist to the story?

Jeanette Kimball's avatar

Once again you’re spot on and for that I say thank you, but just what the fuck is happening to our country? Rhetorical question 🥺. Congress better step up, but I have my doubts. Thank you JoJo ❤️

We all need to stand up! Remember, the Constitution begins with the words, "We the People."

Who or what will stop them when they come for you or me? Or for the Obamas and the Bidens? Or for Registered Democrats? Or for Blue State Governors?

This is not a government, it is the mob and the boss is a loser with a lifetime of grudges. His ax is sharp even though he is failing fast.

Who or what can stop them?

You are one of the most brilliant writers on Substack. You tell it like it is, and describe it in a way that a beautiful picture emerges from your word strokes. Thank you. As you know, I got so pissed today about our war criminal president, I had to write a post today. Thank you for your leadership
