My dear friend and Latino voting expert, Mike Madrid joined me this week for a second go at our new weekly mini-podcast. (My computer ate the first attempt sadly).
I think I’ll be calling these “Exit 45” as per a wonderful suggestion in the chat, and as a nod to both my great Garden State AND finally exiting the 45th so-called “President” from our lives.
Mike and I are both HUGE baseball fans, so we had to talk about the playoffs, but if you’re not into baseball, fast forward a little bit when we get into the disastrous Univision town hall, Kamala’s interview on Fox as well and a whole host of additional topics surrounding the election and beyond (in our usual back and forth banter).

here on Substack, on socials and in the bookstore with his wonderful new book: The Latino Century: How America's Largest Minority Is Transforming DemocracyI love talking to Mike. He’s been my friend and supporter since the very beginning. Way back when I couldn’t afford groceries and worried about how the hell I was ever going to save my home from being sold, Mike would take the time to get on the phone with me. No matter how scared or sad I was, no matter how hard I’d been crying, he always made me feel better, and he’d always tell me that if anyone could figure it all out, it was me. Little by little, I believed him. Until one day, I did indeed, figure it out.
Fast forward a few years, and he stayed up with me on the phone into the wee hours of the morning as I attempted to unpack being played by Dakota Johnson on Saturday Night Live. I was really having a hard time processing that. It was all good of course, but just surreal and just a lot. He really helped me put things into perspective.
He’s always had my back. And I’ll always have his.
