Just beautiful, Jojo! I wish I could have met your noble Dad. I also had a Lebanese parent and everything you mentioned about the market are still my favorite comfort foods.
How beautiful. I felt like I was walking with you & your dad, smelling the glorious aromas & seeing the brilliant colors. Maybe because I lost my dad when I was five, but I think I fell in live a little with yours. Thank you for sharing him with us.
Goddammit, Jo -- do you know how long it takes to stop ugly crying after you touch someone else's soul, by way of words filled with love, with the truth of us as people, with kindness and longing for what's right and good, and for those who showed us the meaning of love and truth? -- like, an hour, Jo! And the tissues are gone, so I have to use paper towels.
No one says it like you, JoJo. Thank you so, so much. β€οΈ
So touching and so on point. Your story is so wonderful. The remarkable bond between a parent and a child and especially the bond between daughter and dad is just the best.
So letβs kick some ass for all of us immigrants!
A beautiful man with a beautiful, courageous daughter. You brought him to life here, we can see him, embracing the life this country affords those who embrace the opportunity to achieve a life without fear of oppression. Thatβs why they come here. And in return, give back and grow without interference in their lives, breathing freedom.
Being the dad, it often brought a tear to my eye when my daughter, now 38, would write stories of her childhood on her blog. She would write about hearing the foghorn of the harbor nearby when I read her stories at night, and early morning surf trips to seemingly far away places.
It is so incredible for fathers to hear these stories and be remembered.
JoJo youβre terrific and thank you for being the voice that you are!!
You have a very handsome dad. He looked like a very good father. I know he loved and took care of you and your family. Because of who you are. I knew a few Arabic people in Kuwait, I called all of the men Arbar, they called me sister and they were so sweet to me. They were the proudest people I ever met. Even in Iraq I knew brothers that were very sweet and kind. Some even went to school in America. If your father was anything like them, you have a right to be proud. Talking to them about anything was a privilege for me. I asked about the history and they were very happy to teach me. They said that I knew a lot about their history for a woman and they were not angry about it. They gave me a Quran and said to read it alongside the Bible. It was taken from me at the airport in Kuwait when I left. The women were not as friendly. But I am happy to know you Jojo, and thank you for sharing your father.
Oh, what a beautiful tribute to your dad! I just loved this post and I loved my dad the same way you've loved yours (although my dad was born here in California and there was nothing exotic about him at all except he did love to go to the Cost Plus store in San Francisco where he would by foods like halvah, baklava, and Turkish Delights, and other delicacies, but he was so incredibly special and even my friends wished he was their dad! ) We were so lucky, weren't we?! I was grateful to have my dad until he was 93. <3

The paper towel cries β I know them well. π
THIS is why meeting President Biden was so powerful for you:
Good men and women empower the people of America.
Thank you for sharing, and thank the universe for sharing your Dad.

This is, in my opinion, the magic of America. And I believe it is what we save us all in the end.

A wonderful reminiscence! Your dad was movie star handsome.
beautiful, thanks for letting us in
What a beautiful memoir and tribute to your dad, JoJo! It should serve as a reminder to those who have seemed to forget who we are as Americans.
Wonderful story JoJoβ€οΈ

THANK YOU!π
For refreshing our almost lost vision of America. It has almost been drowned in 9 years total acceptance of LIES 24/7.
Soon we will have Trump less days.
Thank you for the encouragement π
Sheer perfection. Thank you so much.
